I cannot believe I am half way there already. When we first saw the pink line on the test I remember thinking – well, pregnancy lasts a good 9 to 10 months (almost a year!), surely I have plenty of time to prepare and wrap my mind around the idea of becoming a mother. And then I just blinked and poof! I’m half way there! My last day at work is next Friday and the week after that I will be on the plane heading to Toronto.
There is no way we could attend the 6 week antenatal course, so we found a 1-day crash course on Saturday. I figured if that is not going to be enough we’ll just sign up for something similar in Canada… that is if we will have time. Overall I would rate the class 8 out of 10 and would definitely recommend to all first time parents. I would give mr. notouching 11 out of 10 for managing to sit (almost still) in one chair from 9am till 5pm. I could tell he woke up a little when the mid-wife started covering all available labor drugs.
At the beginning of the class we had to go around the room introduce our selves, tell our due date and the hospital we will be giving birth at. Out of about 15 couples that were there we were the only one due in March, the rest of them were due either in November or December. And I was panicking that we are doing everything the last minute…
One of the discussed topics was pets and babies… which I was really looking forward to, but it turns out our midwife is nothing but a pet hater. She basically said that she would never ever allow a pet to get even close to a baby. Here goes my dream of having a pug farm…
But she almost gave us the same speech when we discussed fathers involvement with pregnancy and the newborn. She kept showing the slides addressed to all the men in the room that said:
- don’t say anything stupid
- don’t do anything stupid
- it is all your fault
Inspirational lady, no?

Wow! No pets, no men, no stupid stuff. Boring childhood…
I know! Not to mention it would crate a huge unemployment issues for all the therapists…
