Her Father

The day I was born my father went out to celebrate and came back 3 weeks later. My mother did not think it was anything out of norm. It was a woman’s job to raise a child. And it was a man’s job to bring home the bacon. Too bad my father did not get that memo either.

I look at Dennis as a father and I am almost jealous of the relationship that Leila will have with him. She has already spent more quality time with him than I have ever had with my own father. Every time he talks to her, sings to her, plays for her, massages her little feet I feel as if I can see him through her eyes. And just for that moment there is absolutely nothing that man can do to make me angry with him… just for that moment I lose my otherwise superior memory of all his past mistakes and slip-ups…. I start to choke with love that I never knew existed before.

But then he decides to make himself some coffee and spends 5 minutes staring at the kettle while it boils…. and I am THIS close from asking him if it would hurt to unload the dishwasher/put the trash out/wipe the counter off etc., etc., all the activities that could be accomplished while waiting for the water to boil. But I don’t. Because who cares?! I know Leila does not. And neither do I anymore. I would rather have him spend more time making my daughter look like this:

If I could bottle the love in her eyes – I could save the world. Of that I am sure.

Happy upcoming Father’s Day, everyone!

I hear ya sister! Same here with my husband. When I see him with the kids and actually spending quality time with them, I no longer see his faults. He becomes Superman! Without the tights. Men in tights equal JUST WRONG!

    Happy Father's Day Dennis!

    Hugs and Mocha,

Aw, you are so sweet to him, I hope he knows that (but I think he should do some dishes, just ask my husband about kindly I express such thoughts). And, that baby of yours is lovely – what fabulous thighs! Nom, nom, nom!!

I know exactly what you mean, on all fronts. And just go ahead and give up on getting him to multitask right here and now– men just aren't capable of it. Truly. :) But the love they show our daughters more than makes up for it, and even begins to make up for our own fathers' lack…
