Which one do you care less about:
a. Leila is sitting up unassisted for ridiculously long periods of time
b. Leila is going to crawl in the next 4 minutes
c. TEETHING is a dog’s mother
d. Leila is going on the potty
e. How I feel about all of this happening AT THE SAME TIME… or
f. Why Dennis is hiding that $50 gift certificate to BevMo from me
I know… nothing exciting… pretty regular milestones… blah blah blah…. but wait! Didn’t I JUST had a baby? Isn’t this a blog about the newborn – the one that slept in the salad bowl, lived in the cookie jar and traveled in my pocket? Apparently not anymore!
The last two days I have spend a considerable amount of time sitting on the edge of my balcony wishing we lived much much higher. Preferably right above the busy highway or the Cliffs of Moher:
Fine… let’s start from the beginning. The day Leila hit 4 months she decided she WOULD be sitting up and WOULD NOT have any of that half-ass sitting in the car seat or anywhere else for that matter. She screamed bloody murder until somebody (let’s not all look at me now) would sit her up and hold her until…. forever. I remember thinking – it’s too early, it’s too early! I don’t want to damage her spine…. but the real question was – how soon do I want to go CRAZY? So I called the pediatrician who reassured me that if the baby wants to sit up then the baby is ready. Oki -doki, then. Leila has been sitting up in her stroller and on her play mat for the last 5 weeks:

To be continued…..

You just may have a little prodigy on your hands.
Love all her pics and yes she is growing up too fast. Love the martini pic.
4 months? WOW, she wants to grow up fast!
Lovin those pics!!!
I am right there with ya! Annabelle is upset all the time now if she's not sitting, and I am pretty sure she's about to crawl away pretty soon. OY! Break out the baby gates (that I don't have). On the other hand, I'm assuming this means she won't talk until she's three.
Yikes! Well think of it this way – by her first birthday she should be totally potty trained and fixing herself breakfast so maybe you can sleep in finally
She is gorgeous!!!
I am inviting Leila to our next girls'-night-out. Apparently she already has all of the necessary "equipment" for having a great time! On the other hand, the more I read your blog, the more I am surprised at how a mother could work and have a baby at the same time. Finally, she is a super-girl (all into her mother!)
You really shouldn't let her drink until later in the day.
Haha! Just looking again and am noticing the cigarette. I'm such a blind dolt. Where do you get this stuff?
LOL! Aaaah, the comments just make my night. Thanks ladies! She really IS in a hurry to grow up… And Jurgita: there is not a day I do not think about moms who have to do all this AND work… seriously, something needs to be done in this country – a mother needs at least two years of full paid maternity leave. Just like in Lithuania
If someone asked me, "Hey, would you find a photo of a baby holding a martini cute and/or funny?" I'd be like, "No! That's just goofy." But alas, you had me busting up over here.
Yours is the only mama blog that makes me traipse out to the living room and interrupt my husband's video game to show him the pics. I bow to you, Master NoTouching.
Oh, also? HOLY S**T you've got an early bloomer on your hands. Bea's still smoking cloves and drinking peppermint schnapps.
My son did exactly the same thing. Boy, that happened fast, right? He is now 6 months old and getting ready to walk…I kid you not!! Hard to deal with it when it happens at lightening speed! I thought I had at least another 3 months or so to prepare. Baby-proofing, here we come, argh!

K I know I'm not supposed to compare milestones or feel anxious that i"m doing something wrong but, here's reality. I do! My child is almost 5mo and has no interest in sitting up, or rolling over. I think his giant head is too heavy to handle such things. But should I be worried? And more importantly, do you think your daughter will share her martini?
Jane – please don't worry! Leila is very very early bloomer and like Abby said it probably means that she won't start talking until she is 3 =) Also, I go to Baby-n-me and numerous play groups with the kids of the same or similar age and some kids are doing some of the things that Leila is trying out but most are like yours – not even thinking about it. I know it is very obvious now, but in another 6 months they all will be at the same level and nobody will even remember who started when.
P.S. Next time any of you are driving pass Fremont stop by – we make excellent baby martinis.
