Teething came in like a tornado, except nobody warned me to go into hiding for a few days. Leila has been drooling for at least a month but nothing out of the ordinary… that is until Monday afternoon.
I dropped my friend off at the airport and on the way home Leila gave me the usual get-me-out-of-this-car-seat-or-we-will-all-die song, only this time it sounded like she really meant it. After a short nap she woke up screaming, rubbing and hitting her mouth with her hands. I tried all the home remedies I could find on google and it did help her a little but not long enough to relax. By the end of the night she was having a diarrhea and I knew I am in for a rough night. It was like having a newborn baby again only worse, because I knew exactly why she was crying and waking up every 2 hours, but could do nothing about it. It was getting progressively worse and I called her pediatrician, but because she didn’t have fever they said to come in first thing in the morning. The next 12 hours I was pretty much on the edge contemplating taking her to the emergency room.

And then what do you know…. Wednesday morning my little sunshine wakes up in the best mood ever, bakes me a perfectly nice poop and proceeds to happily play on her mat….. And I am all “Hello?! We are going to see your doctor in an hour so you better start acting a little more sick!” And she is all “Sheesh, mom, take a nap.”

So of course I take her to the doctor anyway, because…. I don’t know… isn’t that what all paranoid mothers do? And I know Leila can be cute, but that morning she really put in extra effort to make me look like a complete lunatic. She shamelessly flirted with the the doctor and talked to every single nurse that smiled at her. This is the SAME girl that just a few days ago WOULD NOT smile on the swing no matter what monkey sounds I was making.

So an hour and $15 later I was told to take it easy and that my baby is absolutely fine. My pediatrician told me that some babies just teeth in stages… till about 12 months… I guess THAT was just a little preview of the things to come. Only the next time I will have my liquor cabinet full and ready.

Ok seriously… You have the cutest child I have ever seen besides my own! And could you dress her any cuter? Those bumble bee leggings, ah! just darling!

Teething is rough ain't it? No fun at all, for anybody!

I am not a mom and I do not have a baby, but, while reading your post, something similar still hit my mind. I had a kidney stone out of the blue a month ago. The pain was the "dog's mother." I thought this was it. And then one day, boom, it was gone. But, hey, the docs said it may come back again… So I feel for Leila's unplanned, unexpected, excruciating pain (and for you, of course!)

I agree that our babies secretly love to make us look like lunatics at the doc's office.

My kids always perk up at the doctor's office. I hate the teething stage. ((hugs))

I think that Peanut's taking the long, slow, and annoying road to having teeth. She drools A LOT and is inconsolable at times. With that said, the little squirt has no teeth.

oh man, how long does this have to go on? it's been months. months!!!

    Tupy…. anywhere between 12 to 24 months…. don't shoot the messenger.

Good Lord the things they do to us, huh?! Funny thing – Braylon knows the get-me-out-of-this-car-seat-or-we-will-all-die song too. He and Leila must listen to the same radio station. :)

Haven't visited your blog in a while and I had forgotten how funny you are. Will be back again soon!
Noa is five months, giant giant 22 pound baby, but has yet to hold a cocktail glass.

Holy cow, I love, love, love the way you dress your sweet little munchkin. Leila's so adorable, and stylish to boot! Too bad you don't live closer, or I'd hire you to help me go through my kids' wardrobes (and mine). My three look like such ragamuffins…
