This morning smelled like the end of the summer. It was early in the morning and Leila was refusing to play or nap… just crawling around, looking for trouble. Finally I packed her in the stroller and dragged my sleepy behind to the lake.

It was really quiet, windy and looked liked it was about to rain. Except it never did. I don’t know if it was the weather, the early morning or the lack of sleep but suddenly it hit me how incredibly fast Leila was growing. She is six and a half months old! She is sitting, crawling, pulling herself up, eating solids and is a proud owner of two bottom teeth. Also… she stopped napping. She took a 20 minute snooze at the lake and an hour long nap in the car, but that was it. The rest of the time she was busy defending her daredevil title – pulling herself up (once – using the cat) and letting go…. miscalculating the angle needed to turn the corner…. jumping up from the sitting position followed by a face-plant… sitting up and throwing herself backwards (hoping to land on something soft?) … and licking the living room carpet (because she couldn’t pick it up). She crawls so fast she actually runs out of breath.

And just 2 months ago she was playing on her floor mat while I was slowly sipping my coffee and actually thinking… “I wonder when she will start moving?” BAM! Let’s not talk about walking yet, because I am afraid she will start running before the end of this month.

You know how people always tell you “awww, they grow up so fast!”… well… this time they did not lie. I showed my mom a few old videos of Leila and I am just in shock how much she has changed. Here is one of the older videos when she was about 11-12 weeks old:

And here are a few clips from the last two months (when she is on the potty she gets really serious for a few seconds…-that’s Leila’s ‘action’ face followed by the ‘I-did-it!’ smile)

It would be a shame to have only one, no?

She is standing up already!!! No more drinking coffee on the sofa, but running around after Leila. She is a super girl! And it would be a shame to have only one ;-)

It happens so fast!! My husband and I were just talking about how ridiculous it is that time goes by so quickly…and how, just like you said, everyone got it right for once when they say they grow up too fast. Ugh, it's sad! Ours is a little rocket himself, about to start walking at just 7 months! I guess the fun really starts now. Good luck…and hey, can you share some of your potty-training secrets? Your bog inspired me to start EC with my boy, but he's a stealth pooper, so it's hard to catch him when he's going, which then sort of makes the EC ineffective. Any ideas?
Great post, and LOVED the videos!

Loved your videos! And I concur the time is going by so fast, I guess at least pregnancy goes by slowly…you so have to do this again. You and Dennis do good work. Leila is just cute as ever.

Hmmmm. I liked the last line. It seems like just yesterday that we were in red/khaki and I was sitting across from you as you said the words, "Nope, I am never having children." I think I rolled my eyes and shook my head – not usually smart to do to your trainer but I couldn't help it. You are a wonderful mother and your next 5 babies will be blessed to have you. So are you pregnant?

She moves fast, that one! Jack's still at the wounded soldier stage; he can go about an inch in a half an hour. Which come to think of it is fine with me! It must be a whole new ballgame when they won't just stay where you put them…

    Thanks for the love!
M: will write about the potty again soon since we all know… I can talk about poop for hours… but at this age it is mostly a guessing game. Leilani: I am trying to reach the octomom to see how I can get the next 4 in one push.

To what address should I send my fan mail for Leila? That kid is frickin' amazing. She makes my girl look like a troglodyte.

I know what you mean especially with Leila since she's such a show off! =) I feel like months 6-7 are just a huge change in their moving all over the place
